Pesach (Patu'ach)

Well, as we are all bored to the buttom of our blogliness, I figured this will be a good opportunity to share some words of matzah. As I am visiting the Gateway to the West in the Show Me State, I realized that there isn't much to do especially when my laptop is ill and recovering slowly. Honestly it's pretty difficult to survive without our favorite network. But fear not - on Monday we will catch up with the latest West Wings and popcorn too.

Wow, I wouldn't expect that from YOU, Shmulik; tsk, tsk, only Josh is authorized for things like that.

What, pray tell, is a buttom?

And be careful when you say "our" favorite network, some of us consider it avi avos hatum'ah.

And if you're already planning on running back the second pesach ends, you might want to get a taped recording of Rav Ya'akov Moshe Katz's sicha in the main beis, unless if you were there and just weren't paying attention...

I'm not sure what I'm authorized for, but if it starts with "tsk, tsk" it probably is my work. More importantly - Shmulik, hey, you're funny! Keep up the good work!

West Wing?! You should try Scrubs... not half as serious, and it'll help you loosen up.

And, I was in St. Louis many years ago. I especially loved those little sphere-like cars that take you to the top of the Arch. Since you mentioned Gateway to the West, I assume you've been in one of 'em. As they say in St. Louis, "good times good times."

Fartscroll, you can't correct Shmulik in Hebrew. That's actually one thing he does know and the rest of us don't know. So if anyone is the 'ninny' around here, that would be you.

Shmulik, glad to hear you're having such a grand 'ole time. I'm feasting my eyes on shmutz ville. Unfortunately, when I was 15 this place (Miami) wasn't bouncing like it is these days. You just thank G-d none of you are here, that's all I have to say... Although, I'm looking more and more like my sefardi heritage...and liking it!

Hey dorkface, the sicha on TV addiction (AKA FTP network disease [FND]) was actually moved to the main beis by Jonah Rechnitz. Clearly you weren't in attendance.

So between your sedarim of scrubs and west wing, I'm being dan l'kaf z'chus that you have some learning.

Hey! In Shmulik's defense -- He actually DOES attend night seder, an amazing accomplishment that could only occur AFTER the Seforim Sale

Yes, I know, he learns halachah with Beneson. So basically you backed up my being dan l'kaf z'chus before: thanks.
Plus, seeing as one shouldn't be chosheish a tzaddik, I've already taken it for granted that Shmulik has done teshuvah for watching all that TV; I'm sure he's fasting and is on a ta'anis dibbur until Shavuos.

Are we really arguing over where some speech took place? Once you fall asleep, does it really matter where they guy is speaking? All the chairs are just as hard.

Pesach Pasooach, as it was quote from the song is produced in havara ahskenaziss. Furthermore, the phrase is actually Aramaic, not hebrew.

f#@%scroll - I usually come to your defense, but here your wrong on two counts. First off, the phrase, although originating in the Gemara, is in Hebrew, not Aramaic. While I don't know where the Gemara is off-hand, the entire phrase quoted in the song utlizes both Hebrew diction and grammar. Sorry, but unless you can whip out some hardcore academics to back your claim, I'm going to have to disbelieve you. Second, regardless of the context of the quote, Shmulik has obviously made a play on words, which, while it surprised me, should not have shocked you so much that you failed to pick up on the pun. It was rather clever, and so I'm not sure why it should be a source of criticism. Better luck next time! Thanks for joining the party.

duh, which is why in the second word the SSS would make more sense than that T.
and a happy Patover to you soo.

A lesson in cleverness - "Pesach (Pasu'ach)" would hardly strike anybody as a play on words. Rather it would look like a quote from a geeky song. To get across the point that we're spending our Passover holiday doing nothing, modern Hebrew would be the normative way to communicate. That would require a "T." And yes, I am determined to let everybody know that I spend too much time on this site.

Well the "pesach pasuach" sugyos span Kesubos 9a-15b if I remember correctly, but that's probably NOT the source you were looking for.
Oh and Mr. Ashkenaziss, whether you want to say pasuach or patuach, they're both beinoni pa'ul of the Hebrew language: didn't they make you go to 1205 and 1206?
Lesson of the day: not every phrase in the Gemara is Aramaic.

Sometimes, I'm just overwhelmed with pride when I think of the breadth and depth of Shas and Poskim that our staff has mastered.
